They say time heals all pain. That might explain why this blog post has been sitting there as a draft for about a week now. I'd might as well go ahead and post it. It seems appropriate to wait to post anything about the Seattle Mariners as we have found that they are a team best viewed from a distance both through time and physical location.
Every year we are excited when the baseball season starts. I tend to follow the Mariners as well as our other local sports teams obsessively closely. Years of being a Seattle sports fan have numbed us for the most part to disappointment but this year we had high hopes.
The Mariners seemed to be a team on the rise last year and with some key acquisitions this year, we thought that we would be in good competition for a playoff spot all year. Unfortunately, the M’s burst out of the gate and immediately fell on their faces this year. To date they have posted the worst record in all of Major League Baseball.
That being said though, when we had the opportunity to go with Valerie’s family to a game last week, we still took it. Our seats were in the upper deck in right field and the setting sun was right in our faces.

Seeing as Urvinas seem to have a Dracula-like aversion to the sun, we ended up moving to the very top row of the stadium for the little bit of shade that we were able to find there. Like I said, the team is better observed from a distance, like perhaps through the Hubble telescope.
There is a popular notion that there is no bad seat in Safeco Field and that may be true but this might be as close as you could come.
Still though, as bad as the Mariners have been, who cares where you sit. We still enjoyed the atmosphere of the ballpark, the snacks we had brought to eat and spending time together.
I’ll admit that I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the ballgame. As usual, the Mariners fell behind early and spent the remainder of the game getting bludgeoned.
Joe Urvina and I did end up taking most of the kids for a good portion of the playground in centerfield where they could burn off energy and ignore the game to their hearts’ content.

Here we are now several days later, and the Mariners continue to get beat by pretty much anybody they play. Oh well, we always have football season coming up.
Go Seahawks!

look on the bright side...at least you weren't wearing black pants, a blue polo shirt and selling majors! Sitting in the back room of a hot dog stand is definitely the worst seat in Safeco Field.
