Question: What do you do if the kids want to go camping but you really don't feel like digging all the gear out of the garage, fueling up the family car at $4.27 per gallon and heading to the still-snow-covered mountains?
Answer: A backyard campout!
Yes, the kids have been begging for me to take them camping but as usual, schedules have been very busy and most of the good campsites around here are still buried under feet of snow so we decided to play it very easy and grab a few easily accessible sleeping bags and a tent out of the garage and sleep out in the back yard for a night.
This was really not technically camping I guess since I spent most of the cool evening inside the house with the kids watching an “Unbeatable Banzuke” marathon on TV with the Josh and Sarah until after 11 PM when we really just went outside to sleep. (Valerie and Benjamin were conscientious objectors to the whole sleeping outdoors thing). Boone, the dog had no choice but to stay with us once we zipped him inside the tent.
By 5 AM the early daylight and the noise of crows had woken me up and I retreated into the house to get at least one hour of decent sleep.
By the way, I highly recommend “Unbeatable Banzuke”. It is a great gameshow from Japan that they have started playing here. The only thing better than watching Japanese people doing crazy stunts is watching it with Japanese commentary.

Looks like fun! We may do that this weekend, we are having a ward campout at Camp Z but it is probably gonna be cold and rainy. We are trying to talk the kids into staying here instead!!
I love camping in the backyard! And yes it was called something like that. It was something like The tradegy of Doctor Faustus or something like that! And just a note to valerie if we move to Arizona then it could always get Josh off your hands for a week or too and it's one less kid to take care of!
BRRRRRRRRRRR
great idea...is 3 and 4 too young to send outside to sleep alone HAHA
