Pick a Winner

We ended up taking 2 fun trips with playgroup this week....and I am saving the most fun trip for Friday, so stay tuned! Yesterday we headed down to Puyallup for some U-Pick strawberries! Strawberries have been available in the stores for awhile now, but most of those strawberries all come from out of state. Anyone from Washington knows there is nothing like Washington strawberries! We headed down with a group of almost 20 of us to conquer those fields.

With the kids the ages they are, Sarah and Josh were great at picking berries. Most of Sarah's actually made it into the box. I think about 1/2 of Josh's made it and NONE of Ben's did. He would pick about 3 or 4 in his little basket, come show them to me, then instantly eat them. I can't even verify if he stopped to chew them. They just went straight down.

I really wanted to try and have a little Martha Stewart moment and make these berries into freezer jam. I was thinking I didn't have enough for more than 1 jar, so bought a flat of raspberries and another flat of strawberries for jam. I had no clue HOW MUCH that would make. I finally took a break last night with 14 jars (16 oz) done. I still have a gallon size baggie filled with raspberries - which I am sure we will be able to eat, and 2 gallon size baggies with cleaned strawberries. I just ran out of containers, pectin, oh yeah...and space to put these yummy treats! I see many school lunches in our future so these will come in handy!

If I would have known just how much jam you could get out of those things maybe I would have tried. Probably not though. Yeah for homemade jam for the kids lunches, they are lucky to have you as a mom!
