I think Valerie has already covered the fact that we made a return trip to Yakima (aka Yaki-vegas) two weekends ago so I can leave that summary alone.
Before we left home, I was instructed to pack my gun along for the trip. I hadn’t used it for quite some time but I did as I was told.
Apparently Dave Button along with his father and brothers go shooting at this place near Selah every year and I was to be there on the shooting weekend and was invited along. Fun.
The night before, I went to Wal-Mart to stock up on ammunition and earplugs and the next morning we were off… and I mean WAY off. Unlike Western Washington, in Yakima, there are places where you can just drive out into the middle of nowhere and shoot stuff. Today’s choice of shooting grounds was located at N 46° 46.725 W 120° 33.714 which if you look at the satellite picture shows is a place you could shoot a tank without risking hitting civilization or having your name pop up on a no-fly list. In fact the army does this very thing just a couple of miles from here.
This was perfect.
Those along with the group quickly unpacked various implements of destruction from their vehicles and before long we were shooting stuff.
As I have mentioned in an earlier post, I kinda suck at shooting moving stuff. It was fun shooting at clay pigeons with a group since they launch and with a couple of folks shooting, I would sometimes see one break and think that maybe I shot it. That was cool.
My favorite was shooting at non moving targets even though I'm not great at that either.
Things we shot included...
What appears to be a bloody scene is in fact cans of red spray-paint that we had gotten at Wal-Mart when we bought our ammo. We would shoot at them from like 100 yards away with a .22 rifle with a scope on it. When you hit one, they explode. It is neat-o and makes it look like you just plugged a moose or something. I’m sure any game wardens that might fly over would do a double-take here.
If you look at this picture you can see how far away the cans really are. They are way down to just in front of those bushes at the base of that hill. You can hardly make them out with the naked eye let alone in the picture which made shooting at them extra fun…
Joe Urvina was particularly proud of his prey. Time to have that sucker mounted and hung over the fireplace.
A pumpkin also fell victim to the carnage.
Eventually we were running out of stuff to shoot having shot all clay pigeons, the boxes they came in and anything else that could be improvised as a target and ran out of ammo too so we called it a day and headed back out.
I’ll definitely bring my gun next time we go to Yakima again. I’ve already been thinking of more stuff to shoot.

Glad you could join in on the Button tradition of shooting! That spray paint looks nasty! What are you bringing to shoot next??
You need to come out to Sultan and shoot your gun with Terence. He just got a new one. There is a place just a couple of miles from our house that he goes.
Mike and Jacob are in for shooting ANYTIME! I have heard there is are places out by Carbonado where you can do this same type of thing and since we now live on the island of Seattle, it would a easier trip than Yakima. I think they we are going to go scope it out next week. This looks like a lot of fun though!
I want to go next time.
Hey, coming here is fun! And we have a Sonic now, don't forget that!!
