Thank you Mario! But our Princess is in another Bakery.

I can’t help but notice that our blog is leaning heavily towards tales of baked goods over the past several days. This will be the last one for a while I promise. I just thought this was a fun one.

The boys for their birthday parties this year decided that they didn’t want to have a run-of-the-mill Costco cake, they wanted instead to put Valerie’s skills to the test and requested something Nintendo themed.

Our boys kind of have one-track minds. Eat, sleep, play video games (rinse and repeat). If we allowed it, they would run the Wii and/or DS nonstop. Mario games are particularly popular in our home.

Valerie decided that it would be a lot of fun if she took a couple of elements from the Mario games and made two really cool cakes for the boys.

First we had Josh’s plump red mushroom. As anyone knows, Mario eats the red mushroom and gets bigger. Birthday… getting bigger… I don’t know, there is an object lesson there somewhere.

Here is how Josh’s cake turned out…

Next came Ben’s cake he wanted to be the green mushroom which is of course the highly prized 1up mushroom. Eat the green and you get an extra life. Again… object lesson.

Here is how Ben’s cake turned out…

Super cool! In our home this constitutes a major baking coup. They shall be transported more carefully than the cupcake cones.

I love these cakes! You did a great job. What are the white discs on the mushroom caps? I need to know so I can make these someday!

Awesome!!! Carter is so jealous...he said "how 'bout those are the cakes I get when I turn 5!!" I don't think I have your baking skills though!
