As you could probably tell by one of my earlier blog posts, I am a bit of a Ken Griffey Jr. fan. We were all pretty excited to hear he was coming back to Seattle this season for what is quite possibly his final year in the majors.
I was fortunate to be able to go to the home opener yesterday to welcome Junior back home again. I went together with Val’s dad and her brother, Joe.
There were a lot of… odd festivities before the game with them parading out the flags of all countries that participated in the World Baseball Classic this year for some inexplicable reason. It was like the opening ceremonies to the Olympics… only without the reason or the athletes. I still cheered for the flag of the Netherlands. Got to give some love to the motherland.
The moment we were all waiting for was when Griffey was finally introduced and came running out to the field on the red carpet that had been rolled out. Since I’m being artsy fartsy today and turned my pics B&W, the red carpet is gray…
The sun came out and the opened the roof right after all the pomp and circumstance just before game time which felt just wonderful.
The M’s played fantastic again too which we are starting to get used to. They are off to a 6 and 2 start which is a refreshing change. They now have great defense taking to the field behind Franklin Gutierrez (I think I have a man-crush!) and Endy Chavez.
