Monsters vs. Spring Break

With this week being Spring Break for our kids, we felt some obligation to make sure that they have at least a little bit of fun. Unfortunately, the weather around here is still stuck in winter-mode so anything out of doors was out of the question and Sarah had skipped town on us on Sunday morning traveling with the Walsh clan to go visit cousins down in Medford, Oregon so it is just us and the three boys.

On Monday afternoon Valerie texted me at work to see if I might be interested in going to the movies with the kids that evening at the SeaTac Mall… er, “The Commons”. Of course I was and ended up heading straight there from work to meet them for the 5:15 showing of Monsters vs. Aliens, the latest animated creation from DreamWorks.

The boys were excited to see this movie so we bought our tickets plus and extra $3.50 per person for the 3-D glasses that we needed to see the film. Ouch! At least the glasses are ours to keep for future films.

The first thing that I can say about the movie is that the 3-D effects were fantastically awesome and were probably worth the price of admission alone. DreamWorks went above and beyond with the world they created and this to me was easily the best looking computer-animated film I have ever seen. It really was amazing. I especially loved some of the opening scenes in space and also some of the scenes at the Golden Gate Bridge.

Things have come a long way since the since Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” video that I remember by which I was once so impressed.

Unfortunately, the story for the movie itself was kind of blah. There were some funny parts but really not that many, at least to me.

I’m still a bigger Pixar fan with the notable Wall-E exception. Pixar seems to just do a better job with stories than does DreamWorks. This animation here will be hard to top though.

The boys of course still loved it. I could tell because we made it through a whole movie without anyone needing to desperately get out to head to the bathroom, get a drink, or do whatever. We can’t even make it though Sacrament Meeting at church normally able to say the same thing even though that is in 3-D too.

WALL-E exception? Forget that, WALL-E's the best they have to offer and even won multiple Best Picture awards, more than even Ratatouille and there other lesser films have come close to. Forget a WALL-E exception, it's their crowning masterpiece, stop trying to "be different" with that crap, we all know what you're doing.

Yeah!! I totally know what you're doing??? HAHAHA Seriously, if you guys let your kids wear those glasses to sacrament meeting, they might sit still for an hour?! You never know but it might be worth a try.

Did you guys donate to the Wall E Forum? Maybe you could get on Midgard's good side;)
