Two years ago for Christmas, Joshua got a new bicycle. We stored it in the garage awaiting spring and there it has sat for the past two years. It seems for some reason or another that Josh was never really interested in taking it out or learning to ride it. He rides a scooter, he rides a skateboard but never the bike.
That all changed when we learned that this week (Wednesday) the Cub Scouts would be working on their bicycling badge and that the boys were to bring their bikes to their scout meeting.
Josh of course didn’t want to be the only one that was unable to ride so we had exactly one evening to get him riding on two wheels. It seemed like a daunting task but it is amazing what you can do with the proper motivation.
When I got home from work last night, we dusted off the bike, pumped up the tires and within a matter of minutes, Joshua was out riding on his own. It literally took like five minutes for him to be riding. I can’t believe we hadn’t worked on this before.
Of course there were some minor hiccups along the way...

Once we got him reasonably stabilized I took him and one of his best friends, Sirina down to a cul-de-sac around the corner and sat on the curb while they just rode around for the next hour as he got more and more familiar with the intricacies of turning, stopping and of course falling with grace.
See video, complete with less-than-graceful fall…
By the time the sun was setting and it was time to head home for bed, Josh was a confident rider. I don’t think the bike will be sitting in the garage this summer for some reason.
