He Who is Not Yet Named

Valerie and I have decided that we’d better get cracking pretty soon here to name this soon-to-be-born little baby boy of ours.

We have gone back and forth with a couple of names, never really coming to a consensus or getting serious about it until now. Our three current children, Sarah, Joshua and Benjamin all have names plucked right out of the Old Testament which tells us two things #1 we like classic names and #2 the only time we get to spend in peace together is in Gospel Doctrine class where we flip through the scriptures to pick out our winners.

We’ve actually tried to do this again but just have not found anything that we really like. Nothing has been “the one” yet. We don’t HAVE to have a bible name for the new little boy, it has just worked out that way so far.

We have just a few simple requirements for a baby name. The name must be easily spelled. This child will already have a lifetime of “v – a – n – d – e – r, capital h – o…” etc. So we don’t want him to have to spell out his first name too.

Another requirement is that it not be easily rhymed with less desirable words if you catch my drift. For example, Tucker is out of the question.

I decided to look online today at a popular baby names site babynameshub.com to see what is currently popular to see if anything piqued my interest. This is no joke, these are the four currently most popular names for boys…

Seriously, that is a good name and all but nice enough to occupy all of the top four positions? Could Kayden be far behind? (hint: it isn't)

The last two thing we named were the dog (Boone) and our current youngest child (Ben) which in retrospect have disturbingly similar names. We kinda suck at this.

So it is at this point that we, out of desperation turn to our friends and family and whoever it is that is looking at our blog in Iran and ask for help in naming this child. We have five weeks, does anybody have an idea? I hear Barack is going to be big this year.

Pick one of our possible choices in our poll at the right-hand side of this blog or go ahead and give us your own write in candidate in the comments.

I love the name Zachary for a boy...but since you are having a baby first and I don't even know what we are having yet...anyways, I hear Beckham is kinda popular. :)
Kelsi voted for Matthew.

Judy - no worries - that is actually one thing I can guarantee - it will not be Barack! - Any of those others are on the radar, but not that one! Valerie

Don't do Nathaniel...I'm still fighting for that one if we have another boy! I really like Zachary! That really screws things up though. We have A, B, C, then C,T,L and then it would be Z. What happened to the plan?

I like all the names except Zachary. I have never known a Zachary that was not a brat. Besides, you would be guaranteeing him a spot last in line for the rest of his life, whether they line up by first or last name. I like Joseph and Jonathan, right in the middle.

I'm sure you'll pick a good name, but if you both agree on that many names I am impressed! Damien and I would find ONE we BOTH liked and had to go with it.

I love Michael and Joseph. But all of the names on the list are good names. Way to go! John and I had a hard time naming our second boy. It took us forever. Good luck!!
